As we announced last week, two honorary chairs of choice have been named for this different edition of the Gatineau Loppet! Today, we introduce you to the one who will co-chair with Katherine Stewart-Jones, Antoine Cyr! Identified as the best hope for Canadian cross-country skiing since Alex Harvey’s retirement, he is the leader of the Nor-Am circuit. Member of the Skinouk Club and training at the Pierre Harvey National Training Centre, he also finished 18th in the 30 km freestyle event at the last U23 World Championships. Antoine Cyr has just been selected by Nordiq Canada to compete in Europe at the 2021 World Cup. He will also once again compete at the U23 world championships.
“The Gatineau Loppet is an event that holds a special place in my heart. It’s during this unifying event, located a few minutes from the family home, that I took my first steps in cross-country skiing. I have many memories of that special weekend when my family and I went out to enjoy Gatineau Park. I participated for the first time in the Gatineau Loppet at the age of 2 years old and from that moment on, I was hooked on the sport and the competition. It’s an honour for me to represent this event which marks the beginning of my career as a skier. Since then, I have competed in many international competitions, but the Gatineau Loppet is still one of my favourite events. “ – Antoine Cyr
