Race Director – Courons Gatineau

The Race Director is responsible for planning, organizing, delivering, and overseeing all activities related to the technical organization of Courons Gatineau, while ensuring compliance with the rules and guidelines of Athlétisme Québec, the sanctioning body for road running events.

Experience

  • Significant experience in organizing road running events (5 km, 10 km, half marathon, etc.)

  • Previous experience in a race director role, technical coordination, or operational management

  • Experience managing volunteer teams and on-site staff

  • Experience collaborating with:

    • Timing service providers

    • Medical and safety services

    • Municipalities and local authorities

    • Sanctioning bodies

Technical Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of:

    • Road running rules and regulations

    • Safety standards and course marking requirements

    • Start, finish, and timing procedures

  • Ability to develop and update:

    • Course plans

    • Contingency plans (weather, emergencies, cancellations)

    • Emergency action plans

  • Ability to analyze and approve official race results

Organizational and Interpersonal Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to make decisions under pressure

  • Excellent communication and team coordination skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and respect for deadlines

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, partners, and a wide range of stakeholders

Personal Qualities

  • Calmness and sound judgment in emergency situations

  • Strong sense of responsibility and ethics

  • Autonomy and proactive approach

  • Passion for running and community sport

  • Availability before, during, and after the event (evenings and weekends)

Practical Requirements

  • Availability on site for the full duration of the event

  • Ability to move along race courses (extended walking, frequent travel)

  • Valid driver’s licence (depending on context)

  • Proficiency in French; functional English is an asset
