A cross-country ski outing starts at home :
- Check the temperature at the cross-country ski centre you will be visiting before heading out ;
- Dress accordingly ;
- Choose your wax based on the weather conditions.
For classic, I usually bring cork, the grip wax that I have already applied, plus a softer one. I might need to adjust my wax on the go.
Don’t forget to bring something to drink, a snack, maybe a map of the trails, some extra clothing, sunglasses, your telephone and – why not – some hand warmers!
A few tips :
- At the start of the season, you’re better off starting on an easy trail nearby. Keep the more advanced and technical trails for later in the season.
- It’s a good idea to bring along an experienced skier if you can. They will be able to give you some tips.
- To start, we recommend short outings of 45 to 75 minutes. This will allow your body to adapt, while reducing the risk of injury. Gradually, increase the duration and make sure to set achievable goals.
- Before heading home, change from sweaty to dry clothing or throw on a warm jacket.
- Try to ski at least 2 to 3 times per week, and enjoy our beautiful nature!
See you out there !
