The Gatineau Loppet welcomes Louise Poirier as its new President

Gatineau, June 29, 2020 – The Board of Directors of the Gatineau Loppet is pleased to announce the appointment of Louise Poirier as President.

In addition to her 31 years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Gatineau Loppet, Ms. Poirier is well-known in the field of cross-country skiing as a coach, an athlete, an organizer and a volunteer. She is a Worldloppet Master, having completed Worldloppet races in 10 different countries. Ms. Poirier was inducted into the Legend’s Path, the Gatineau Loppet’s hall of fame, alongside none other than Alex Harvey during the 2020 edition.

“I wish to thank Jean-François Rochefort for his generous contribution as President for the past two years,” said Ms. Poirier. “I am ready and willing to take over the torch. The organization is in sound financial health and our incredible volunteers are key to the success of the Gatineau Loppet. Our challenge will be to adapt to the new reality following the pandemic, which we are ready to do. The Gatineau Loppet is on for 2021 – in a format to be defined according to public health directives. We are already hard at work.”

The Board of Directors also appointed the following individuals as Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Race Director. Mr. Jacques Dumont was elected as Vice President. He is a well- known skier in the Outaouais region, an International Ski Federation technical delegate, a long- time volunteer with Club Skinouk and a member of the Board of Directors of the Gatineau Loppet for more than five years. Another talented skier, Miss Mélanie Gauthier – a Chartered Professional Accountant – was elected as Treasurer for a seventh year. She participates in the Gatineau Loppet every year and additional Worldloppet races whenever she gets the chance. Mrs. Paulette Leclair – a CRTC alumna and communications specialist – was elected as Secretary for a second year. She is entering her fifth year as Chief of Master of Ceremonies for the Gatineau Loppet weekend. Mr. Claude Laramée was elected for a ninth year as Race Director. The latter has been involved with the Gatineau Loppet for more than 25 years. Claude is a dual Worldloppet Master and an International Ski Federation technical delegate. His expertise is recognized internationally, among others, for chairing the organizing committee of the 2016 Ski Tour Canada as part of the World Cup and the Canadian Ski Championships in 2019.

The high caliber of the Board of Directors, along with the event producer PMI Sports and its president Mr. Peter Metuzals, will ensure a great 2021 edition of the Gatineau Loppet.

About the Gatineau Loppet:

The Gatineau Loppet, the greatest international cross-country ski event in Canada, will take place from February 19 to 21, 2021 through wonderful and stimulating races in Gatineau Park. In 2020, more than 2,500 participants took part in the race. The Gatineau Loppet is one of the many stops of the Worldloppet, an organization that includes 20 cross-country skiing events around the world.

The Gatineau Loppet 2021 is managed by the PMI Sports group, which has expertise in event organization. The Gatineau Loppet can also count on the remarkable work of the organizing committee, whose members work with passion to make this event a national success.
