Simoncic Group back as executive producer

GATINEAU, Friday Oct. 1, 2021 – The Board of Directors of the largest international cross-country ski race is proud to announce today the return of Simoncic Group as executive producer of the Gatineau Loppet for the next three (3) years.

Simoncic Group was executive producer of the event between 2011 and 2019, during that time, they provided valuable expertise by coordinating the largest international cross-country ski race in the country, right here in the Outaouais, for more than nine years.

We are very pleased to reconnect with Simoncic Group. This fearless and dynamic team has been able to achieve great goals during our last collaborations and already, we are confident that they will be able to bring our event to its highest potential“, said Louise Poirier, President of the Gatineau Loppet.

Since 2004, Simoncic Group has specialized in the organization and management of events. In addition to producing festivals of all kinds, they stand out through the production of national and international projects such as Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, the 14th World Scout Moot and, of course, the Gatineau Loppet.

During their last mandate, Simoncic Group has made outstanding advances for the Gatineau Loppet. These include an increase of own-source revenues of 400%, an increase in customer base of 25%, as well as strengthening the notoriety of the event with funders. These efforts have allowed the country’s largest cross-country ski race to stand out among the other races of the Worldloppet Ski Federation, in addition to having economic benefits of nearly $1M for the Outaouais region. Simoncic Group intends to continue this momentum with new growth objectives for this unmissable winter event in the region.

“The Gatineau Loppet is a flagship winter event for the Outaouais and the greater National Capital Region. Our team arrive in force with the firm intention of contributing to the development and growth of the event, which will result in an increase in races participation, the development of outreach activities, the improvement of the experiential offer for participants, volunteers and employees”says Michel-Olivier Matte, General Manager of Simoncic Group.

Simoncic Group has already been at work since July 1st, 2021. Thanks to a financial contribution from the City of Gatineau and ID Gatineau, the Gatineau Loppet has recruited the Montreal firm Kubidez with whom it has developed a strategic marketing, communication and sponsorship plan, a roadmap towards achieving the objectives set. In addition, specifications have been developed by the new executive producer, thus providing volunteers with a new structural and detailed work tool.

The Gatineau Loppet organization would like to thank the entire PMI Sports team for the work accomplished over the past two years. They have contributed to the growth of this sporting event, notably with a record year in 2020 with more than 2,500 participants.

We must also mention the incredible work that has been done during the pandemic with a virtual edition that has been an unparalleled success: 1,500 skiers from 25 different countries took part in this particular edition, double the target of 750 participants set at the beginning. Moreover, the City of Gatineau was awarded first place in terms of participation in the virtual race among the participating cities in the National Capital Region and ranked 5th in the world among all the virtual races on the Worldloppet circuit. This is quite an achievement!

An event of this magnitude requires great teamwork. We cannot ignore the contribution and loyalty of the Gatineau Loppet partners and volunteers who, year after year and without any hesitation, agree to join us in this major event to provide all participants with an unforgettable experience in this absolutely magnificent park. It will be with great pleasure that Simoncic Group will reconnect with these key players of the Gatineau Loppet and forge new links throughout its mandate.

Preparations are well underway for the 44th edition of the Gatineau Loppet, which will take place on February 18, 19 and 20, 2022.  Already, an improved in person edition is being considered. Since it will be difficult to receive foreign skiers as tradition dictates, the team will focus more on Quebec, Ontario and Canadian clientele in general.

However, Gatineau Loppet wants to reassure the community that everything will be done in a most secure way where sanitary measures will be respected and applied in all aspects of the event without exception. Beautiful surprises are planned for this 44th edition for both elite skiers and families in the region who are new to this sliding sport.

Registration will open on November 1st, 2021.
